Actor Charles Ouda, 38, passes away six months after engagement

The family of Charles ‘Charlie’ J. Ouda and Ciru Muriuki has shared the devastating news of his passing on the night of February 3, 2024. Charles was 38 years old at the time of his untimely death.

The family’s statement, issued on behalf of the Oudas and Ciru Muriuki, appeals to everyone to respect the privacy of the grieving fiancée and the Ouda family during this difficult time.

The statement asks for space to grieve the unfathomable loss, with further details to be provided in due course.

Ciru, former BBC Africa presenter, and Charles had joyously shared their engagement news in September 2023, captivating the hearts of many with their adorable moments.

In a life update video posted on Ciru’s Instagram page, the couple playfully teased their followers about recent events in their lives.

In the video, Ciru humorously inquired about potential mishaps, such as getting a speeding ticket, before revealing the most precious part of the announcement—the engagement ring on her right hand.

Charles, the popular actor, director, scriptwriter, and events manager, joined the frame with a radiant smile, confirming the joyous occasion.

The engagement announcement had been met with warm wishes and congratulations from fans and friends, celebrating the love and happiness that Ciru and Charles had found together.

Charles, known for his contributions to various film projects like ‘Makutano Junction,’ ‘The First Grader,’ and ‘Count It Out,’ was not only a talented actor but also a distinguished film director and scriptwriter.

His exceptional talents had earned him numerous accolades, including the title of Best Director at the 2016 Asian American Film Lab 72 Hour Shoot Out and multiple awards from the NYC Indie Film Awards.

In June, Ciru had introduced her podcast, teaming up with Charles as the co-host. The couple’s journey and shared ventures had become an inspiration for their fans, making Charles’ sudden passing all the more devastating.

May he rest in peace.
